[TYPO3-english] good typo 3 hoster

Dear list,
I am currently managing three webprojects: two of them are typo3 instances
and the third is a serendipity blog.
The first of them runs on a small university webserver. The page loads
quickly and everything is quite nice (its for free) but I will not continue
to have access to that option for very long (unfortunately).

The rest is hosted on a shared webspace at www.1und1.de
They provide a wide range of features for a low price (albeit not
ImageMagick) but performance went into the basement once I installed typo3
(the blog is running without too much delay but I guess that is because its
structure is just simpler). :-(

I really like typo3 and would like to continue using it so I am looking for
webhosts that can provide good performance when running typo3 at a
reasonable price (I am a student and this thing is rather intended for
learning typo3 on a live webpage - incase you are going to suggest running
on localhost ;-) ), say not more than 10?, maybe 15 ?, per month.

Ideally I would like to have a small number of mail boxes, the typo3
requirements, 2 or more mysql databases, enough traffic, ssh access, ftp
access (1 or more) and the ability to manage at least two domains and a
bunch of subdomains from the online interface.

I don't require any fancy website creator tools and stuff like that as I
consider myself at least somewhat technically literate, but I am looking for
good value (i.e. machine specs) for money.

As most of you are running typo3 pages of varying sizes, I though I might
just ask you for any ideas about which providers might suit my needs
Note: I am perfectly fine with small scale providers as long as they can
provide the service and they appear reasonably serious. Also a german
provider might be sensible as my homeaaddress is located there.

I am looking forward to your suggestions (and maybe examples of typo3 pages
that run smoothly on those suggested hosting packages),
yours sincerely
Jonas

Firsts, there was exactly the same topic two or three days ago. Did
you try to search before posting the same question?

Secondly, if you expect to pay for a hosting 5? and run enterprise
level CMS on it (=TYPO3), you are out of luck. Raise your funds or
choose another CMS. TYPO3 needs resources and 5? hosting will never
be able to provide those. You have to pay if you want to run
enterprise level CMS.

Well, yes, I searched the archive of this list, but maybe used the wrong
keywords :-| at least I didn't turn up any recent conversation on the topic
...
Anyways, I know that I won't get the stuff I look for for 5? but I thought
15? should be doable as I've seen many offers for around 20? but they
included loads off junk "features" which I don't really need (and also huge
amounts of email mailboxes which I don't really need either). The problem I
see is that the bigger packages are often scaling on all aspects while I
only would like to have better specs on some of them (and thereby cheaper).

kind regards
Jonas

Hi Jonas,

the "loads of junk features" are what people want (to see but actually
don't need). Besides: these features are not the ones that make hosting
expensive. Really expensive is neither the webspace nor the traffic.
Processor power and RAM (what TYPO3 needs) are the features making
hosting expensive. You get hosting offers with a load full of your "junk
features" for 1-2 EURs a month, but you will never get a good hosting
for a system that needs enough RAM and processor power to run smoothly
for a low price.

Hello Jonas,

http://www.webhostone.de/
http://www.hetzner.de/
http://jweiland.net/
http://www.mittwald.de/
http://alinbu.net/
http://webgo24.de/

if someone should choose webgo24.de, they very often have special offers, so you'll get the double
of the normal benefits. You only have to know someone who is already customer. Ask for a customer,
e.g. me ;-)
