Discussion:
[TYPO3-english] I see only a blank page on front end

Hi all,

I have followed all suggested protocols and searched the mailing lists
etc. in advance of posting but I'm still none the wiser. Here's hoping
one of you kind souls will point me in the right direction!!

I've been creating a new, very simple website on a brand new
installation on version 4.7.7 and using the templavoila! extension.

I've spent the past four days working through the several typo3
documents that explain set up, necessaries and templates etc. I've
followed all instructions correctly (I believe) and now have no obvious
errors indicated in the back end.

However when I try to view a page all I see is a blank, white page in
my browser (Firefox 16) or in IE9 I see the typo3 page with a pink box
saying "oops! an error occurred".
My problem is that I've no idea where to begin troubleshooting this
problem. My site hosts confirm that everything is running fine at their
end, and I do have access to cpanel and mySQL, myphpAdmin etc but no
idea what I'm looking for.
Have tried 'obvious' things like clearing caches, logging out and back
in but no joy. Have tried deleting all content and recreate anew. No
indicated problems with extensions or database in typo3. Where should I
be looking for errors?
Suggestions please. Thank you

Hi Alan,

I would start looking in two places:

1. The servers error logs
2. Try to log into the backend and produce the error (the one with the
error page) in another tab while being logged in. You usually get a much
better error message this way.

I will do that, thank you. And I feel I may have omitted something
important from my original post:

I use the Firebug extension in firefox. If I generate a blank page
while logged into the back end, by using the "view page" icon, I can
open this blank page under firebug. Here I notice that the html is
present on the page - this extension allows me to expand the tree and I
can confirm that the HTML for the template has been displayed. However
firebug reports that there is no css on the page. This is despite my
having included it in the templavoila mapping (per instructions) and
having validated all my code at WC3.

I'll do as you suggest here and post the results.

Are error logs something that my site hosts should be responsible for,
bearing in mind that I used Scriptaculous to install typo3?

Thanks
